Epiktistes

Epiktistes is my home in the Fediverse. It is an instance of Ktistec, a single-user ActivityPub server like Mastodon, but with fewer users and fewer commits. Here's my introduction (last updated early-2025).

I wrote a series of posts about optimizing the performance of the Ktistec server, its build time, and its executable size: part 1, part 2, part 3, part 4, and part 5.

Some things I regularly write about, organized by hashtag:

I also wrote some #pointfreeverse.

i implemented support for in-the-flow images with attachments as the fallback on federated platforms that don鈥檛 support them.

saki

saki shows up in the flow on epiktistes and as an attachment elsewhere.

epiktistes runs on ktistec (still no README). the choice of crystal and sqlite has worked out really well. a small fully threaded conversation using a recursive query took 9.55ms to retrieve and render.

PSA: do not share passwords via email or anything that creates an electronic record. honestly, you鈥檙e better off sharing them on paper these days because you can at least burn that

relevant to my earlier griping about homebrew, i'm giving nix, the purely functional package manager, a try (https://nixos.org/nix/)

excellent article on NP-complete problems and physics. dives into quantum computers and NP-complete problems and then takes off from there: the relativity computer, cosmological parallelism, the time travel computer... http://www.fields.utoronto.ca/video-archive/static/2019/05/2774-20557/mergedvideo.ogv

i don't want them to ever change stack overflow back to the way it was

continued issues with readline on homebrew are just about enough to get me off homebrew
